Pieter van Beukering appointed professor Environmental Economics
Pieter van Beukering was appointed professor Environmental Economics on 1 May with the assignment ‘Economics of Natural Capital’. The chair is embedded in the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) of the Faculty of Science.

Prof. van Beukering is an economist with more than 25 years of experience in research and education in environmental economics. In 1993 he started at IVM as an economic research assistant. His main research interests are natural resource management, circular economy and economic valuation focused on the natural environment and renewable energy. Between 2003 and 2009 he worked as director of the PREM research programme, aimed at strengthening the capacity in developing countries for environmental economic research.
Since 2009, Pieter van Beukering has been an Associate Professor of Environmental Economics at VU Amsterdam. In 2015 he became Head of the department Environmental Economics and Deputy Director of IVM. He has also been the Director of the Master Environment and Resource Management (ERM) programme since 2015. In 2017 he developed the VU-wide minor programme Sustainability: Global Challenges, Interdisciplinary Solutions, which he currently coordinates.
