Alfred Wagtendonk has extensive research experience in the multi-disciplinary application of GIS and spatial analysis. His main fields of application are in environmental economics (GIS based valuation of ecosystem services) and land use modelling (evaluation of land use change).Currently he is working on his PhD taking a spatial analytical perspective on landscape change and ecosystem service valuation. Besides his research activities he is a coordinator and/or teacher in several BSc and MSc courses in GIS and spatial analysis.

Between 2001 and 2009 he carried out GIS based research and coordinated supporting activities of the Spatial Information Laboratory (SPINLAB)* based at the IVM. Between 2009 and 2014 he coordinated a university wide research cluster concerning spatial tools and methods. From 1998 until 2001 he worked as a researcher in land use modelling projects at the faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the VU university.

* The SPINlab was an interfaculty GIS centre between FALW and FEWEB between 2002 and 2010.
