Kostas Bischiniotis has been working as a PhD researcher at the IVM since October 2015. In the coming years he will be working under the supervision of Prof. Bart van den Hurk and Prof. Jeroen Aerts on the Forecast-based Financing (FbF) project, initiated by the Climate Centre of the Red Cross/Red Crescent. This research aims to come up to improved flood risk management strategies, taking into account information from the existing climate forecasts and projections.

Prior to starting his research at IVM, Kostas completed a BSc and a MSc in Civil Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in Greece and a MSc in Hydraulic Engineering at the Technical University of Delft, in the Netherlands. During this period, Kostas developed a broad interest in river and coastal engineering, hydraulic structures, probabilistic design and flood risk management. His internship was done in BAM Infra Consult bv, focusing on the temporary flood protection measures and his MSc thesis was conducted in Deltares, where he focused on the optimization of the river dikes using probabilistic methods. Besides Greek and English, Kostas can speak Spanish and German.

Hydraulic structures, flood risk analysis and management, probabilistic design, flood defences.
